I’m a huge advocate for meals that are high in nutritional value and I think this is particularly important when it comes to your breakfast. Starting the day with a nutrient filled breakfast sets you up for a successful day because your body is fuelled with what it needs to operate at its best. It also assists you to eat well the rest of the day because you’ve started the day with considering how your food is going to nourish and care for your body. This encourages a healthy mindset and relationship with food. Beyond the immediate positive effects though, the continual intake of foods filled with antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals will have long term health benefits by enhancing your inner health, reducing the risk of disease and improving your skin’s health. This simple blueberry smoothie bowl is one of my favourite breakfast recipes that helps boost energy and enhance your antioxidant intake.
TIP: Try making your own granola – this ensures it’s low in refined sugars! Try my healthy almond, hazelnut and fruit granola recipe.
What are Antioxidants?
Antioxidants are essentially nutrients (including vitamins like E and C) that destroy free radicals before they have the chance to harm you. Antioxidants scavenge free radicals from the body cells, and prevent or reduce the damage caused by oxidation. Antioxidants protect cells against breaking down when they are exposed to free radicals.
What are free radicals?
Free radicals are oxidants that you find in the environment. UV rays, infrared radiation, pollution, and poor lifestyle choices generate damaging free radicals that all cause damage to your cells. This can potentially lead to illness and premature ageing.
Which foods are rich in antioxidants?
Antioxidants occur naturally in plant-based foods such as fruits, nuts, whole grains and vegetables. Most foods with healthy levels of antioxidants are also high in fibre and low in unhealthy fats.
Nutrimetics Super Reds Powder
You can also boost your antioxidant intake by including a supplement like this Nutrimetics Super Reds powder in your diet. You might remember from my instagram stories a couple of weeks ago that I was the guest speaker at a Nutrimetics event in Canberra at the QT Hotel. This was for the launch of this Super Reds Powder and was gifted some of this powder to try. I LOVE that Nutrimetics are now expanding beyond products for your skin to look at how we can improve our beauty from the inside too.
This new powder is rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is made with a blend of berries, super fruits and vegetables:
8 BERRY BLEND:
Made up of Raspberry, Strawberry, Pomegranate, Elderberry, Blackcurrant, Blueberry, Cranberry and Acerola Cherry Juice this powder is packed with antioxidants and vitamins to give you a refreshing, energising boost and support your immune function.
SUPER FRUITS:
Acai and Goji are powerful super fruits that provide an abundance of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that may help the body neutralise and protect against damaging free radicals.
POWER OF VEGETABLES:
Known for their detoxing properties, Beetroot and Black Carrot may contribute to digestive health and maintain body alkalinity. These two extremely strong antioxidant rich vegetables support vitality for a happier, healthier you.
It’s made in Australia, vegan friendly, gluten free and one of my favourite supplements to add to my smoothie bowls or with some coconut milk or water on ice. It’s simple to use and you only need a teaspoon a day.
- 2 tsp Nutrimetics Super Reds Powder
- ½ can coconut milk
