This is our new friend, Lorri. He is a magnificent Australian Lorikeet who swings by our garden each afternoon.
It’s the first autumn that we’ve been graced with Lorri’s cheery presence (or any Australian lorikeets for that matter). We like to think it’s because he likes us talking to him, but I dare say he is (also) attracted to something else. Like me, he loves food. He finds himself a sweet afternoon tea in these glorious bright yellow blossoms.
We’ve been living in our little house for over two years, finding enjoyment in and lavishing love on our simple garden. Although like Lorri, this autumn is the first time these stunning blooms have appeared, slowly exploding like fireworks. Both are lovely additions that bring joy whilst I’ve been trying not to drown in the evidence law I need to learn before Tuesday’s exam.
Some days haven’t been great for study and to be honest I was questioning God – ‘Why aren’t you helping me!? I asked you this morning but I can’t sit still and my gut is turning. What are you doing God?!’. In my pain, I went searching for answers and this verse came to mind: ‘Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.’ James 4:8. I was reminded that I have a relationship with God. His help, like that of a friend, is much more effective when I stop to listen tohis advice. With my multiplicity of tasks however, I was acting like a bad friend that asks for things continuously but but fails to set aside time to further the friendship. It takes two to tango, but I wasn’t dancing. Lorri and these beautiful flowers were enough to show that God was still trying to.
So yesterday I put on my dancing shoes, or rather picked up my bible, read and listened. Proof’s in the pudding because yesterday I studied for 10 hours and got a good chunk completed (32 pages of summary notes for 3 topics with only 6 topics to go!). Now I’ve been up since 4am and starting a new day of study in the same way. Wish me luck! Or perhaps I won’t need luck now I’m listening.
P.S. Fly on over to this post to enter to win a delivered box of vegetables. Less than a day until the give-away ends!
