Have you heard of a staycation? It’s the new way busy people can take some time out, without using your annual leave. How does it it work? You stay in the city you live and explore new places you’ve never seen or simply hide away in your hotel room for a weekend.
It is bliss.
If you live in a small town or the country then grab your swag and go camping. The idea of a staycation is to get away from the norm, break your routine with little fuss and staying close to home. If you squirmed at the idea of camping and money is tight, then stay at home but rule out a weekend on the calendar (do not book a thing!) and use that time to do things like going to museums, the beach, local tourist spots, checking out new cafes or going for a bush walk.
Reis and I chose a staycation as my birthday gift. We went to the Hilton Brisbane. It was SO nice. I didn’t feel like I was in my city and felt really refreshed at the end of the weekend.
You fly up the walls like Charlie in the Chocolate factory – in a glass elevator. We stayed on the top floor – it was a long way down! I feel like this photo needs a warning like those on car mirrors – ‘images in photo are further away than they appear’. I held on tight to my camera for this shot (whilst Reis had a heart attack over it, hehe).
This was the view from our room which we throughly enjoyed as we sipped my birthday champagne.
The sweeties at the Hilton even left me a birthday card!
After a weekend of eating, exploring and resting it was wonderful to feel so refreshed and only have a 20 minute drive home.
Not into staycations? Check out some of our other getaways to Mt Tambourine QLD, Melbourne VIC, and Maleny QLD!
Have you ever done a staycation or would you do one? What is there to do where you live?
