Wooden floor boards always catch my eye. Their natural hues offer a gentle and inviting atmosphere of authenticity. The floor boards are what drew us to stop for a coffee at The Old Bank Café, Maleny (Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland).
As its name suggests it was formerly a bank. The owners have retained elements of its historical character. The old thick dark floorboards have been teamed with fresh timber tables teamed with subtle splashes of colour through the chairs. The door to the cellar is the old vault door. The ceilings remain high and the windows are the old fashion fold out style.
We stopped by for a coffee here on our anniversary weekend.
The atmosphere and friendly staff were so enjoyable we returned that night for dinner! Romantic jazz music, dimmed lights and the removal of the plant centerpieces added to our dining experience.
Reis enjoyed the Thai Chicken Curry and I relished the Salmon with Pea Mash – each bite melted in my mouth – UH-mazing.
If I wore a hat, I would take it off to the team at The Old Bank Cafe.
PS. Please note that subsequent to writing this post the Old Bank Cafe has been taken on under new management. Sadly we did not enjoy our last visit (February 2015) as much, we were overcharged and the owner was quite unorganised and not well presented. I was not a fan of the bright coloured prints which had been added to the decor.
